Many images we see from Japan give the impression of a fast-paced lifestyle, with Japanese people crammed onto bullet trains, rushing towards the future with their flashy gadgets and gizmos.
There is also more peaceful side to Japanese culture, think Buddhist temples, traditional Japanese gardens and the ancient art of calligraphy. Silence in Japan is a valued in conversation – they actually use this to communicate! Silent pauses in conversations are not uncomfortable, rather a time to reflect and gather your thoughts.
You have to love the idiosyncrasies of the Japanese people – displaying the ‘peace’ sign in every single photo, the wacky fashion of the young Harajuko girls, and their craze for karaoke.

A three-day, arrival orientation in Tokyo where students gain valuable tips on how to successfully live in Japanese households, learn about Japanese schools and transportation and do some city sight-seeing. Included on all programs to Japan.
Language and Climate
Japanese – with three different alphabets, a fast pace and a totally different sound to English, Japanese is a challenging language to learn! Applicants to Japan must have studied the language for a minimum of two years.
Japan has four distinct seasons – Spring from March to May, Summer from June to August, Autumn from September to December and Winter from December to February. The further north you go, the cooler the country becomes. The island of Hokkaido, for example, receives huge amounts of snow during winter.
