Luke – semester to Ireland
It’s been the best thing I have ever chosen to do. The experience has been unreal. I’ve been up to so much in the four months I’ve been here.
With school, which is amazing, I went and climbed some mountains, went horse riding, surfing, bowling and also went up to Dublin for a soccer game (Ireland v Uruguay) and it was a great experience. I’ve had quite a few holidays too, so I’ve had plenty of time to wonder around Waterford and experience the culture first hand. Ireland is a great country even better than I thought. Being Australian is almost like being alien. It’s amazing how little they know about us. It seems they just watch Home and Away and think that’s what everyone is like.
I haven’t had a dull moment with my host family either. I also haven’t been homesick yet and don’t think I will be because there is always someone to talk to or do something with. The Union season finished not long ago, so I won’t be playing that any longer, but it was fun while it lasted. We even got to play two English teams. I even managed to make TV for an all Irish speaking TV program TG4. There were 15 or so of us all up from all different schools and we got to go Wind Carting and Surfing all for free while they filmed us. It was for a teenagers program called Punk so it turned out to be a good day and hopefully I get a DVD of it.
There are only three or four weeks of school left and then it’s not long until I will be leaving my host family but the experience has been wonderful. It’s probably one of the greatest things I will ever do. And even though I still got a month left I would like to thank everyone at WEP for making it all possible. I hope many more students can experience what I have.
