Cameron – year USA

My exchange so far has been absolutely amazing! I’m having the time of my life living with Americans and as an American.

My host family has made settling in super easy and they have introduced me to many new foods like chowder, chilli and meatloaf.
For a week I had a Chinese sister come and live with us. She was a part of a small group of Chinese exchange students that came to our school and I learnt a lot about the Chinese lifestyle.

I have made the most amazing friends. I feel as though I’ve been here for a lot longer as I am finding it really easy to fit into my new home and school. I’ve been to a few varsity basketball games at my school which I’ve had a great time being a part of the crowd and cheering on my new school.

The snow was the most dramatic change for me having experienced a snow storm in the first three days of my arrival. I’ve made a snow angle and went snow tubing which was cold but great fun. The climate is a lot different than what I’m used to in Australia going from 30 degrees Celsius to -30 which it was not too long ago.

I have joined the track team where I attend practice everyday after school. We do a lot of running, sprinting and some strength training. This gave me another opportunity to make even more friends within my school. Track has also given me the chance to compete against other schools in sprinting which has been nerve racking but a lot of fun.

This has been such an awesome experience for me so far and I can’t wait to see what the next few months have in store for me.
