Study In Switzerland (and eat lots of chocolate)
Did you know that Switzerland is one of the world’s biggest chocolate exporters? And (it gets better) the Swiss eat the largest amount of chocolate in the world, 11kg per person per year! That’s a beagle! So, love chocolate? Choose Switzerland for your WEP exchange!
Switzerland is amazing for other reasons too, it’s home to four languages, Swiss German, French, Italian and Romansh! With 19 out of 26 cantons (states) speaking German, it is the most widely spoken language in the country. French is spoken in the western parts of the country, while Italian is spoken in only some parts in southern Switzerland. Rumansh is a language, which has no written text of its own, yet is spoken by 0.5% of the Swiss population. All WEP exchange students are placed in German-speaking Switzerland.
There are also beautiful lakes, snow-covered mountains, enchanting towns and endless historically significant sites!

More Information
Study Abroad Program
Programs to Switzerland are classed as study abroad programs. This means that your host family will be paid a stipend to cover your basic living expenses. Program rules and expectations remain the same as on a WEP student exchange program.
School
The most common type of schooling in Switzerland is public schooling. Because the curricula are nearly identical in both private and public schooling, the general mind-set of the Swiss is that private schools are for those who didn't make it into a public school.
Typical subjects in a Swiss school include languages, humanities, economics, maths, science, visual arts, music, and sport.
Language
Switzerland has four national languages; German, French, Italian and Romansh. The German region is roughly located in the east, north and centre of Switzerland, with 64% of the population speaking German. WEP exchange students are always placed in German-speaking Switzerland.
How hard is it to learn German in Australia? MEDIUM. 44 weeks OR 1,110 class hours are required to become proficient in German. Fast-track your language studies on exchange!
