Do you like to relax in spas and hot water tubs? They are literally everywhere in Budapest! Hungary has one of the most important thermal spring cultures in Europe. Go on a stroll down the beautiful streets, appreciate the best panoramic views of the city at the Citadella or taste their wonderful ‘goulash’ in a romantic little restaurant.
Ever heard of Magyar? It is the Hungarian name for the language spoken in Hungary (Hungarian in English). Did you know that Hungary’s language differs to that of its seven neighbours, however is distantly related to Finnish and Estonian.
You’ll see that grandparents usually play an important role in helping raise the children. Like to get outdoors? Hungary is known as the ‘nation of horsemen’, so don’t be surprised if your host family offers to take you horse-riding at some point during your study in Hungary!
Fun Fact: Like puzzles? It was Erno Rubik, a Hungarian engineer, that invented the world-famous Rubik’s Cube! Maybe if you choose to study in Hungry you’ll be able to solve it!

School
There are only two terms in Hungarian schools, with the school year beginning in September and finishing in June. The school day starts at 8am and there is usually five or six 45-minute classes with ten minute breaks between them.
Typical classes in Hungary include history, literature, languages, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, drawing, singing and physical education.
Language
Hungarian is the only official language in Hungary, spoken by over 98% of the population.

Climate/Time
Hungary's climate can be described as fairly temperate, with warm, dry summers and cold winters. In summertime, the daytime temperature can get as high as 30°C (averaging around 20-25°C), with the average winter temperature being around 0°C.
Depending on daylight saving, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane are between nine to ten hours ahead of Hungary.
