In Finland the school year runs from August to May, with school hours typically being between 8am-2pm. Students typically learn Swedish as their first foreign language and core subjects include math, geography, history and science. A free lunch is provided to all students in Finland, taking place over a 45 minute lunch break. Students are not required to wear uniforms.
The two main official languages of Finland are Finnish and Swedish, although Finnish is predominant, with just over 90% of the population speaking it.

Finland has a relatively mild climate in the summer months, with the temperature fluctuating between 13-17°C in July in Helsinki, although it can get much warmer in the south. In the winter, some northern part of Finland experience darkness for nearly two months, with the sun never rising above the horizon.
Depending on daylight saving, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane are between eight to nine hours ahead of Finland.
