- Junior Cycle (age 12-15 years)
- Senior Cycle (ages 16-18 years)
School syllabus
- Junior Cycle - Irish, English, mathematics, science, a European language and a subject from the social, political or environmental.
- Senior Cycle - the Transition year prepares students in the areas such as social awareness, personal development adn work experience. Fifth and Sixth year are spent preparing for the final exam, the Leaving Certificate
Holidays
- Two weeeks over Christmas
- Two weeks over Easter
- Long summer break
Uniforms
The majority of schools are single-sex schools with obligatory school uniforms
