LOTE students in year 9, 10 or 11 during 2010 are now eligible to apply for WEP's $3000 scholarship to Italy and French-speaking Belgium! Fill out our enquiry form to request a FREE application pack in the mail.

Applicants for WEP Australia's scholarship award must submit the following:

1. WEP application form: At this stage medical pages and immunisation records do not need to be submitted.
2. Parental/guardianship and student declaration form (download scholarship forms below).
3. 150 words, in English, about what you imagine will be most difficult (other than missing your friends and family and the inevitable communication difficulties) about living overseas.
4. 150 words in English that explain why you are studying your current LOTE.
5. 100 words in the language you are currently studying (Italian or French) that answers the question, “Why I want to win a WEP student exchange scholarship."

Application Deadline: 28 May 2010

A shortlist of three applicants will be required to be available for a phone interview in June 2010. The interview will be conducted in English, with three short questions in Italian. Applicants will be briefed on the content of this conversation closer to the date.

The winner will be announced on 9 JULY 2010.

All short listed applicants will receive a $500 discount towards a semester or year program to Italy, commencing in January 2011.

At the end of her program, scholarship recipient Eliza described to WEP how she felt when she first applied:

Before leaving Australia, I admit, I was worried sick. I asked myself more than once, “What am I doing leaving my family, friends, and life as I know it to go somewhere practically unknown and to live with people I’d never even met”. Despite these worries, 2 January 2009 I threw myself into the deep end and walked through those big yellow departure gates at Melbourne Airport. This is, decidedly, the best choice I have ever made!

Each scholarship can only be applied towards a year-long program commencing in January 2011. Applicants MUST currently be studying Italian or French. Applicants must be a minimum 15 years old by January 2011 and in Year 9, 10 or 11 during 2010.

2010 Winners

Congratulations to Georgia from Sydney Girls High School (NSW), who will live in Rixensart (French-speaking Belgium) for a year. Georgia understands the challenge she has set herself, but is ready to embrace the Belgian culture and find her place in Belgian society.

Congratulations to Amy from Bede Polding College (QLD), who will spend 2010 living and learning in Italy. Amy is looking forward to trying traditional Italian food, making Italian 'amici' and appreciating the famous Italian art.

Hosting scholarships

Although hosting is not a requirement of your outbound program, it is rewarding to be able to provide the same hospitality and care to an international student as your international family will provide for you. Find out more!
