As most of you know, the idea of taking a gap year has been receiving a lot of positive attention by the media, parents and students alike over the last five to ten years. I had always wanted to do something different, something that would really challenge me, something that I knew I would enjoy.

I arrived in the Netherlands on the 1st of January, the perfect day to start an adventure that will change my life! I am in a town called Zwolle, and like everyone else I cycle everywhere.

Centuries of rich history are obvious when wandering through a typical German village where castles and old town halls look like something out of a fairy-tale. After years of wanting to lean a language, I finally found the perfect way to master it: immersion. I applied and was accepted to be an exchange student for a year with WEP in the tiny but gutsy country of Belgium. My lucky number being 9 and the year being 2009 I felt invincible and was more than ready to meet the challenge!
